Anastas Gerdjikov graduated with a master's degree in 1990 from Humboldt University in Berlin. He has been a professor of ancient and medieval literature since 2008. He was elected Rector on November 17, 2015, and on November 20, 2019 he was re-elected Rector of Sofia University.
