Responsibilities

  • Researches and analyses the landscape of innovative approaches that could significantly contribute to the scientific goals of GATE in the field of advanced data analytics, applied to the four application domains at GATE: Digital Health, Future Cities, Intelligent Government and Smart Industry;
  • Adapts current machine learning research to high consequence real world applications and integrate solutions into practical tool chains;
  • Pursues independent (but complementary) research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internal and external to the Institute;
  • Presents formal and informal overviews of research progress to peers, sponsors, and stakeholders;
  • Manages multiple advanced parallel tasks and priorities of the Instutite and stakeholders, ensuring deadlines are met, while leveraging team member’s skills;
  • Conduct self-initiated research, maintain an awareness of technical literature in assigned areas, publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals, and present results at external conferences, seminars, and/or technical meetings;
  • Contributes to high-quality scientific publications;
  • Prepares presentations to communicate research results at national and international scientific conferences and industry events;
  • Participates in the implementation of existing and the design of novel Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) models in the context of GATE projects;
  • Performs individual and collaborative research in the area of ML and AI;
  • Participates in the development of strong relationships with external key stakeholders;
  • Management of national and/or international research project;
  • Supervision of young researchers, interns and master students;
  • Engages in continuous professional development and participates in various events for learning and knowledge exchange;

Our requirements

  • D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field, or a Master’s Degree plus a minimum of 10+ years of industry-based relevant research experience;
  • Experience in one or more of the following: machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence, scientific machine learning, image analysis, computational statistics;
  • Programming skills in Python using at least several of the standard Data Science tools and libraries: PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, NumPy, SciPy, Pandas or others;
  • Interest in participating in research projects, involving a wide variety of stakeholders;
  • Experience in significant research co-operations and collaborations;
  • Experience in teaching and mentorship programs;
  • Good written and oral communication and presentation skills, prioritizing of tasks, motivation to discover new approaches in AI development;
  • Fluency in English;

The extraction of data from social media, the various analysis and visualization methods are essential instruments in the study of dynamics of information flows and in the understanding of the mechanisms used for creating and spreading disinformation.

 

GATE institute is looking for experienced researchers who are interested in the data extraction and analysis from social media for developing analyses tools for contents in Bulgarian language.

 

The suitable applicants for this post should have a solid background, experience and publications in the domain of information and communication technologies, preferably with a specialization in one or more of the following domains: data retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing. The practical experience in the development and testing of methods for social media analysis is an asset.

  • Designs, implements and supports complex data models data in the domain of social media analysis;
  • Develops solutions for extracting data from different sources: text documents, relational data bases, etc.
  • Develops models which help in the analysis of social media content;
  • Plans educational activities and teaches in programs in the domain of analysis of natural language and social media contents;
  • Participates in research on methods for analysis and content analysis in Bulgarian and other languages;
  • Evaluates new methods in comparison with the academic literature and the best international practice;
  • Develops ontologies to present the data semantics;
  • Manages the development of research projects in the domain of social media content analysis;
  • Keeps themselves up to date with the newest technological trends;

Requirements

  • PhD Degree in computer science, computational linguistics, natural language processing, or another technological or philological area or a master’s degree plus a minimum of 7 years of experience in research within the industry;

  • Experience in the documentation and creation of datasets;
  • Experience in tools for collecting social media data, e.g. Crowdtangle, APIs for Twitter, YouTube;

Your responsibilities

Common

  • Involved in all phases of the numerical simulations;
  • Research and develop numerical simulations at different scales;
  • Integrate the results from numerical simulations in 3D city models;
  • Keep up-to-date with the research environment (for example, funding bodies) and contribute to grant applications;

  • Link domain-specific simulation programs to each other to support rapid prototyping, integrated whole-system level analysis, and model use during operations;
  • Developing applications for visualization of simulation data in augmented reality.

Requirements

  • A PhD Degree in computer science, application informatics, engineering, or in a related discipline or a Master’s Degree plus a minimum of 7 years of industry-based relevant research experience;
  • Prior experience with GIS;
  • Experience in existing simulation modelling software such as WRF, ENVI-met, etc.;
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, R, and others;
  • Experience participating in research projects involving a wide variety of constituents and stakeholders;
  • A scientific contribution through original research that extends the frontier of knowledge by developing a body of work, innovation or application, evidenced by publications, software output, technology transfers etc.;
  • Proven ability in critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis of new and complex ideas;
  • Advanced communication, presentation and influencing skills to be able to explain the value of their research to the research community;
  • Proven ability to find ways to create value and deliver results by working both independently and as part of a team with professionals at all levels and of various disciplines.

The GATE Institute is seeking to appoint Researchers in 3D City Modeling, Analysis and Simulation who will be involved in the GATE City Digital Twin project. It is a large interdisciplinary flagship project aiming to develop a digital twin platform for designing, testing, applying and servicing the entire lifecycle of the built environment. An ultimate goal of the projects is to go beyond digital replicas and visualizations to explore the full potential of integrating data from all stages of urban development and thus push the applications of urban modelling, simulation, analysis and visualization.

Your responsibilities

Common

  • Develop new methods and automated solutions for the integration and 3D visualisation of data (including geo-spatial and spatial-temporal data) originating from multiple distributed sources (cadastral data, satellite images, point clouds);
  • Develop 3D models that combine geometric details, rich semantics and spatial relationships;
  • Contribute to the development of ontology-based definitions and standard’s extensions;

Your responsibilities:

  • Designs and develops novel algorithms and models to tackle NLP challenges;

  • Incorporation of Deep Learning to enhance NLP tasks;
  • Designs, implements and supports complex data models data in the domain of social media analysis;
  • Develops solutions for extracting data from different sources: text documents, relational data bases, etc.
  • Develops models which help in the analysis of social media content;
  • Teaches in programs in the domain of analysis of natural language and social media contents;
  • Participates in research on methods for analysis and content analysis in Bulgarian and other languages;
  • Develops ontologies to present the data semantics;

Requirements:
