Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Director of the Institute in strategic planning and implementation of the Institute’s priorities.
  • Organizing and coordinating the Director’s daily commitments, including managing and prioritizing his/her work schedule.
  • Plan and organize internal and external meetings, events, visits, and work commitments of the Director.
  • Coordinate interaction between the Director, research teams, administrative units, and external partners.
  • Preparing analytical reports, presentations, letters, and official correspondence for national and international forums.
  • Taking minutes of meetings and following up on decisions and subsequent actions.
  • Organizing travel, reservations, and logistics related to the Director’s commitments.
  • Receiving and making phone calls, relaying messages, and managing incoming and outgoing correspondence on behalf of the Director.
  • Organizing, administering, and maintaining documentation related to meetings, negotiations, offers, decisions, contracts, and other key materials from the Institute’s activities.
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of partnerships with universities, scientific organizations, businesses, and government institutions.
  • Ensuring effective internal coordination and communication between the Institute’s departments.
  • Welcoming and coordinating guests and partners of the Director and the Institute.
  • Actively cooperating with all employees and providing general administrative support when needed.

Required skills and competencies

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to analyze and synthesize complex information.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with various stakeholders.
  • Very good time management and prioritization skills in a dynamic work environment.
  • Discretion, reliability, and ability to work with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Excellent command of English; command of a second foreign language is an advantage.
  • Excellent computer literacy (MS Office / Google Workspace; experience with presentations is an advantage).

Requirements for the position

  • Higher education (advantage: management, social sciences, law, economics, international relations or STEM fields).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of professional experience in a similar or relevant position (administrative, coordination, management).
  • Experience in coordinating scientific, management, or administrative activities.
  • Knowledge of the scientific and innovation environment in Bulgaria and the European Union is a strong advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Researches and analyses the landscape of innovative approaches that could significantly contribute to the scientific goals of GATE in the field of advanced data analytics, applied to the four application domains at GATE: Digital Health, Future Cities, Intelligent Government and Smart Industry;
  • Adapts current machine learning research to high consequence real world applications and integrate solutions into practical tool chains;
  • Pursues independent (but complementary) research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internal and external to the Institute;
  • Presents formal and informal overviews of research progress to peers, sponsors, and stakeholders;
  • Conduct self-initiated research, maintain an awareness of technical literature in assigned areas, publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals, and present results at external conferences, seminars, and/or technical meetings;
  • Contributes to high-quality scientific publications;
  • Prepares presentations to communicate research results at national and international scientific conferences and industry events;
  • Participates in the implementation of existing and the design of novel Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) models in the context of GATE projects;
  • Performs individual and collaborative research in the area of ML and AI;
  • Participates in the development of strong relationships with external key stakeholders;
  • Engages in continuous professional development and participates in various events for learning and knowledge exchange;

Our requirements

  • Junior researcher (R1): А minimum of bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field;
  • Established researcher(R3): Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field, or a master’s degree plus a minimum of 7 years of experience in research within the industry;
  • Experience in one or more of the following: machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence, scientific machine learning, image analysis, uncertainty quantification, verification and validation (V&V), computational statistics;
  • Programming skills in Python using at least several of the standard Data Science tools and libraries: PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, NumPy, SciPy, Pandas or others;
  • Interest in participating in research projects, involving a wide variety of stakeholders;
  • Good written and oral communication and presentation skills, prioritizing of tasks, motivation to discover new approaches in AI development;
  • Fluency in English;

  • Experienced researcher: A PhD Degree in computer science, geoinformatics/geomatics, engineering, or in a related discipline or a Master’s Degree plus a minimum of 4 years industry-based relevant research experience;
  • Proficiency in Python with a good grasp of PyTorch or other deep learning frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of neural networks and deep learning architectures (Transformers, LLMs, RNNs, Graph Neural Networks, Computer Vision etc.)
  • Experience in ML model development, including algorithm selection, fdata preparation, feature engineering, model training, hyperparameter tuning.
  • Solid knowledge of statistics, probability, and mathematical foundations of ML.

  • Strong ability to analyze and solve real-world problems using ML techniques.

The researchers will be involved in an international project in collaboration with two of the most prestigious research institutes in Europe: Norway’s SINTEF Institute and Ireland’s INSIGHT Institute.
