Junior Researcher Data Analysis

 

 

Your responsibilities:

  • Designs, implements and supports complex data models data in the domain of social media analysis;
  • Develops solutions for extracting data from different sources: text documents, relational data bases, etc.
  • Develops models which help in the analysis of social media content;
  • Teaches in programs in the domain of analysis of natural language and social media contents;
  • Participates in research on methods for analysis and content analysis in Bulgarian and other languages;
  • Develops ontologies to present the data semantics;
  • Keeps themselves up to date with the newest technological trends.

 

Our requirements:

  • А minimum of bachelor’s or master’s degree in Data Analysis, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Natural Language Processing, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field;
  • Experience in the analysis of social media data;
  • Experience in tools for collecting social media data, e.g. Crowdtangle, APIs for Twitter, YouTube;
  • Experience in developing models and machine learning, e.g. Python
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple tasks and motivation for achieving high quality results;
  • Fluency in English.

As a  Business Development Expert (European and other programs and initiatives) at GATE, you will be responsible for further development and expansion of GATE ecosystem with EU and other international organizations, academic institutions, research partners and associations.

You will manage the business development process from opportunity identification and research, through establishing and developing further the first contact to drafting a research project proposal in cooperation with other GATE departments and teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Think strategically – seeing the bigger picture and setting aims and objectives in order to develop business opportunities for public funding of research and innovation activities.
  • Work strategically – carrying out necessary planning in order to implement operational changes in the business development and project planning, management and reporting of research and innovation projects funded by European and national public sources.
  • Research and identify new business and partnership opportunities in the European and national public sectors – including new trends, growth areas, funding programs, partnerships.
  • Seek out the appropriate contact in public and corporate organisations of interest, generate leads and prospective partners, meet with face to face or over the phone, foster and develop relationships with prospected partners and stakeholders.
  • Have a good understanding of the GATE research and innovation areas and capabilities and be able to present and advise others about them.
  • Understand the needs of GATE stakeholders and partners and be able to respond effectively with a plan of how to meet these.
  • Be able to draft research project proposals in cooperation with researchers and other GATE experts, liaise with the administration, finance, and legal teams as appropriate.
  • Attend seminars, conferences and events where appropriate and train members of business development and research teams in new trends and programs, arranging external training.
  • Discuss promotional strategy and activities with PR and Event management and seek ways of enhancing GATE image and ecosystem.
  • Keep abreast of trends and changes in the applied research and its business aspects.

 

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of professional experience at a similar job position.
  • Degree in Information technologies, Public/Business administration, Marketing, Communications, or related field is preferred.
  • Additional specialization in planning, management, and reporting of projects with EU and national public funding is an advantage.
  • Established international and national business network and personal contacts in the public domain will be considered as a strong advantage.

Position’s responsibilities

  • Coordinates a research and innovation project intake, evaluation, and prioritization.

Disinformation is not a new phenomenon; however, it reached an impressive level with the growing use of social media by the population. The extraction of data from social media, and the various analysis and visualization methods are essential instruments in the study of the dynamics of information flows and in the understanding of the mechanisms used for creating and spreading disinformation.

 

GATE institute is looking for experienced researchers who are interested in data extraction and analysis from social media for developing analyses tools for content in the Bulgarian language.

 

The suitable applicants for this post should have a solid background, experience and publications in the domain of information and communication technologies, preferably with a specialization in one or more of the following domains: data retrieval, artificial intelligence, and natural language processing. The practical experience in the development and testing of methods for social media analysis is an asset.

 

Responsibilities

  • Designs, implements and supports complex data models data in the domain of social media analysis;
  • Develops solutions for extracting data from different sources: text documents, relational data bases, etc.
  • Develops models which help in the analysis of social media content;
  • Plans educational activities and teaches in programs in the domain of analysis of natural language and social media contents;
  • Participates in research on methods for analysis and content analysis in Bulgarian and other languages;
  • Evaluates new methods in comparison with the academic literature and the best international practice;
  • Develops ontologies to present the data semantics;
  • Contributes to the development of research projects in the domain of social media content analysis;
  • Keeps themselves up to date with the newest technological trends;
  • Contributes in publications with high research impact;

Requirements

  • PhD Degree in computer science, computational linguistics, natural language processing, or another technological or philological area. Alternatively, a Master’s Degree in the same areas plus a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in industry or academia;
  • Experience in the analysis of social media data;
  • Experience in the documentation and creation of datasets;
  • Experience in tools for collecting social media data, e.g. Crowdtangle, APIs for Twitter, YouTube;
  • Experience in developing models and machine learning, e.g. Python
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills;
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work on multiple tasks and motivation for achieving high quality results;
  • Understanding of the principles of Open Science;
  • Excellent knowledge of English language;
  • Experience in one or more of the following:
  • Experience and good knowledge of the concepts of natural language processing (text extraction, analysis, generation of texts in natural language) and processing of models for machine learning;
    • Supervised and Unsupervised machine learning, Neural Networks, Support vector machines, Kernel methods;

Role

The Research Group Lead will be instrumental in providing international-level leadership, developing the academic staff, contributing to securing the sustainability of the ERA Chair, and managing the day-to-day activities of the research group. Contribution to the supervision of PhD students and teaching Master’s level courses. This position will be based at the GATE Institute in Sofia, Bulgaria.

 

Responsibilities

  • Plans and manages research and related projects and activities in the relevant scientific field;

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Higher education in the field of Information and Communication Technologies, Computer Science, Applied mathematics, Statistics, Software Engineering or related field
  • PhD Degree in Information and Communication Technology, Computer Science, Applied mathematics, Statistics, Software Engineering or related field;
  • Fluent in English language. Knowledge of another European language would be an advantage;
  • While proficiency in Bulgarian language is preferred, a demonstrated strong commitment to learning Bulgarian within the two first years from being appointed may be an acceptable alternative;
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in digital cultural heritage is particularly valuable;
  • Academic record at the level of Associate Professor or a Professor;
  • A strong track record in building successful partnerships with memory and cultural heritage institutions, including libraries, archives, museums, and so forth.
  • Track record of senior expert commitment to e-Infrastructures on national and European levels;
  • University-level curriculum design and/or development experience, including experience in quality assurance processes and delivery of high-quality teaching;
  • Strategic and managerial competency: planning, organization and management of research activities; create interest and stimulate the empathy and creativity of researchers; identifies and applies new research methods and innovative technological solutions;
  • Analytical competency: Data management, including clearing, filtering, anonymizing, aggregating, linking, data integration; Structuring data from different sources and building relational and non-relational data warehouses; Building data models based on standards, ontologies and taxonomies; Skills for developing scripts and application programming interfaces needed to transform data between different warehouses and formats;

Position’s responsibilities

  • Strategic long-term planning to ensure public funding of the institute from European and national programs and
  • Discovery and development of new opportunities for funding research and innovation activities from European and national programs, including monitoring of new trends and priorities in applied research and their business aspects, areas of growth, funding programs, significant initiatives;
  • Optimization of the process of preparing and submitting project proposals, as well as the management and reporting of research and innovation projects financed by European and national sources;
  • Identification and development of new partnership opportunities with European and national institutions, including research institutions, business organizations, technology companies, startups and entrepreneurs, governmental and non-governmental organizations, associations, as well as the various departments of the EC.

Applied area: Data enrichment and semantic interoperability

Your responsibilities:

  • Carries out research tasks related to data enrichment and semantic interoperability for artificial intelligence;
  • Works with technologies and tools for knowledge management and representation in different application domains;
  • Develops techniques and methods for semantic interoperability;
  • Participates in research and implementation of algorithms and models for the analysis of enriched data;
  • Participates in the generation of ideas for the application of research outcomes in innovation projects;
  • Engages in continuous professional development and participates in various events for learning and knowledge exchange;
  • Prepares presentations to communicate research results at the national and international level;

Requirements:

  • А minimum of bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, applied computing, software engineering or another related area;
  • Experience in the domain of semantic technologies;
  • Experience in developing ML models is an advantage;
  • Good written and oral communication and presentation skills, prioretizing of tasks, motivation to discover new approaches in AI development;

Experienced Data Science Researcher

Research group: Data Analytics

The Data Analytics team at GATE creates novel and utilizes existing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning methods to support the work in our four application domains: Digital Health, Future Cities, Intelligent Government and Smart Industry. To achieve our goals, we work with leading academic institutions in the EU, UK and US and we also participate in a broad network of industry partners.

To expand our team, we are looking for experienced Data Scientists that are interested not only in applying existing ML and AI methods to various problems in academia and the industry but also in developing novel approaches to such problems.

Your responsibilities:

  • Researches and analyses the landscape of innovative approaches that could significantly contribute to scientific goals of GATE in the field of advanced data analytics, applied to the four application domains at GATE: Digital Health, Future Cities, Intelligent Government and Smart Industry;
  • Leads or contributes to high-quality scientific publications
  • Prepares presentations to communicate research results at national and international scientific conferences and industry events
  • Performs individual and collaborative research in the area of ML and AI

  • PhD Degree in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Informatics or a related field. Alternatively, a Master’s Degree in the same areas plus a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in industry or academia;
  • Scientific contributions, through original research that extends the frontier of knowledge by developing a body of work, innovation or application, evidenced by publications in scientific journals;
  • Advanced programming skills in Python using at least several of the standard Data Science tools: scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, H2O, NumPy, SciPy, Pandas or others;
  • Experience in participating in research projects, involving a wide variety of stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated ability to conceive, design, implement and adapt research programs; and to carry out research under minimal supervision;

Research group: Analysis of social media and disinformation

Disinformation is not a new phenomenon; however, it reached an impressive level with the growing use of social media by the population. The extraction of data from social media, the various analysis and visualization methods are essential instruments in the study of dynamics of information flows and in the understanding of the mechanisms used for creating and spreading disinformation.

GATE Institute is looking for experienced researchers who are interested in data extraction and analysis from social media for developing analyses tools for content in the Bulgarian language.

The suitable applicants for this post should have a solid background, experience and publications in the domain of information and communication technologies, preferably with a specialization in one or more of the following domains: data retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing. The practical experience in the development and testing of methods for social media analysis is an asset.

Your responsibilities:

  • Designs, implements and supports complex data models data in the domain of social media analysis;

Responsibilities:

  • Structures, parses, integrates, and manages large sets of structured and unstructured data, imports heterogeneous data from different data sources into different types of databases (relational, document-based, graph databases, etc.);

This project is putting the foundations of the very first on a global scale academic department which will provide research underpinning the deployment of data space for cultural heritage. Role

The Research Group Lead will be instrumental in providing international-level leadership, developing the academic staff, contributing to securing the sustainability of the ERA Chair, and managing the day-to-day activities of the research group. Contribution to the supervision of PhD students and teaching Master’s level courses. This position will be based at the GATE Institute in Sofia, Bulgaria.

 

Responsibilities

  • Plans and manages research and related projects and activities in the relevant scientific field;
  • Provides leadership in the development of knowledge and competencies of the Institute in the relevant scientific field;
  • Demonstrates authoritative influence in the field of science and pioneering in the development of scientific programs and applied innovations;

  • Manages and periodically evaluates the development of knowledge and competencies of researchers in the research group;
  • Actively communicates with representatives of the public sector and industry in defining joint research projects and activities, and coordinates the participation of researchers from the relevant scientific field in the implementation of these projects;
  • Oversees the timely preparation, summarization and presentation of an annual plan for the development of the scientific field;
  • Oversees the timely preparation of quarterly and annual reports on the performed scientific activity, the achieved scientific and project results in the respective scientific field;
  • Oversees the timely planning and reporting of financial revenues, costs and results related to projects and activities in the relevant scientific field;
  • Participates in the planning and delivery of professional education programmes; and,
  • Coordinates the participation and reporting of the results of the researchers’ activity from the respective scientific field in projects of the Institute with external partners.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Higher education in the field of Information and Communication Technologies, Computer Science, Applied mathematics, Statistics, Software Engineering or related field
  • PhD Degree in Information and Communication Technology, Computer Science, Applied mathematics, Statistics, Software Engineering or related field;
  • Fluent in English language. Knowledge of another European language would be an advantage;
  • While proficiency in Bulgarian language is preferred, a demonstrated strong commitment to learning Bulgarian within the two first years from being appointed may be an acceptable alternative;
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in digital cultural heritage is particularly valuable;
  • Academic record at the level of Associate Professor or a Professor;
  • A strong track record in building successful partnerships with memory and cultural heritage institutions, including libraries, archives, museums, and so forth.
  • Track record of senior expert commitment to e-Infrastructures on national and European levels;
  • University-level curriculum design and/or development experience, including experience in quality assurance processes and delivery of high-quality teaching;
  • Strategic and managerial competency: planning, organization and management of research activities; create interest and stimulate the empathy and creativity of researchers; identifies and applies new research methods and innovative technological solutions;
  • Analytical competency: Data management, including clearing, filtering, anonymizing, aggregating, linking, data integration; Structuring data from different sources and building relational and non-relational data warehouses; Building data models based on standards, ontologies and taxonomies; Skills for developing scripts and application programming interfaces needed to transform data between different warehouses and formats;
  • Result orientation: Ability to present the results in the relevant scientific field to the academic community, the public sector, industry and the public; Publication of scientific results in international scientific conferences and journals with high impact factor; Application of the research activity’s results for solving socially significant and applied problems;
  • Communication skills and teamwork: problem solving in a dynamic environment; highly developed skills for working with virtual and international research teams.

Stages of the selection

  1. Acquaintance with the received documents of the candidates and admission to participation in the procedure of those who meet the requirements specified in the announcement.
  2. Interviews will be held with the admitted candidates by 09.06.2023.
  3. The International Selection Committee will review the documents submitted by the applicants and select those who meet the requirements of the position as described in the job profile.
  4. Online interviews (approximately 30 minutes) will be held with selected candidates by mid-June.
  5. All candidates who have been interviewed will be informed about the results of the competition.
  6. The selected candidate will be offered a labor contract.
