Experienced Researcher

Research area: Computer Vision for Future Cities

In the Future Cities application theme, GATE Institute provides innovative solutions enabling the city to use technology, data and IoT to facilitate effective planning of infrastructure and services, in order to improve the quality of life of the citizens.

Within the city domain, visual data can be effectively used to improve city life and contribute to creating sustainable cities. Computer Vision applications can be utilized for these purposes in a number of fields such as smart-resources management, risks and safety assessment, infrastructure and traffic monitoring and ecological assessments.

The institute is seeking to appoint a Researcher with a strong practical background in the development and deployment of Computer Vision models to support the team. This role will be actively involved in bringing the developed concepts and research projects to life.

Your responsibilities:

  • Perform applied research and development of computer vision methods and models;
  • Design and implement core components of ML data pipelines;
  • Design, implement and deploy solutions, which aim to support city authorities in decision making and to provide a better quality of life for citizens;
  • Propose applications of computer vision with potential for great impact at the city level;
  • Disseminating results through scientific publications;

Requirements:

  • PhD Degree in computer science, geoinformatics/geomatics, applied mathematics, engineering or a related field. Alternatively, a Master’s Degree in the same areas plus a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in industry or academia;
  • Good understanding of fundamental deep learning theory and techniques for Computer Vision;
  • Good programming skills in Python and experience with Machine Learning frameworks and libraries such as Tensorflow, PyTorch, Numpy;
  • Experience with cloud platforms for model development and model’s deployment as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google;
  • GiS software skills such as QGIS, Arc GIS, etc. is an advantage;
  • Academic and other results demonstrated in the form of scientific publications and/or public repositories such as GitHub;
  • Solid oral/written communication and presentation skills, ability to prioritize tasks and work on many activities, motivation to discover new approaches and ways to create value and achieve results in the field of artificial intelligence, teamwork skills;
  • Fluent English is a must.

Experienced Data Science Researcher

Research group: Data Analytics

The Data Analytics team at GATE creates novel and utilizes existing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning methods to support the work in our four application domains: Digital Health, Future Cities, Intelligent Government and Smart Industry. To achieve our goals, we work with leading academic institutions in the EU, UK and US and we also participate in a broad network of industry partners.

To expand our team, we are looking for experienced Data Scientists that are interested not only in applying existing ML and AI methods to various problems in academia and the industry but also in developing novel approaches to such problems.

Your responsibilities:

  • Researches and analyses the landscape of innovative approaches that could significantly contribute to scientific goals of GATE in the field of advanced data analytics, applied to the four application domains at GATE: Digital Health, Future Cities, Intelligent Government and Smart Industry;
  • Leads or contributes to high-quality scientific publications
  • Prepares presentations to communicate research results at national and international scientific conferences and industry events

  • Scientific contributions, through original research that extends the frontier of knowledge by developing a body of work, innovation or application, evidenced by publications in scientific journals;
  • Advanced programming skills in Python using at least several of the standard Data Science tools: scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, H2O, NumPy, SciPy, Pandas or others;
  • Experience in participating in research projects, involving a wide variety of stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated ability to conceive, design, implement and adapt research programs; and to carry out research under minimal supervision;

Disinformation is not a new phenomenon; however, it reached an impressive level with the growing use of social media by the population. The extraction of data from social media, the various analysis and visualization methods are essential instruments in the study of dynamics of information flows and in the understanding of the mechanisms used for creating and spreading disinformation.

GATE Institute is looking for experienced researchers who are interested in data extraction and analysis from social media for developing analyses tools for content in the Bulgarian language.

The suitable applicants for this post should have a solid background, experience and publications in the domain of information and communication technologies, preferably with a specialization in one or more of the following domains: data retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing. The practical experience in the development and testing of methods for social media analysis is an asset.

Your responsibilities:

  • Designs, implements and supports complex data models data in the domain of social media analysis;
