Strengthening Collaboration in AI, IT, and Space Engineering
The Bulgaria-Japan IT Seminar 2025, organized by the Embassy of Bulgaria in Japan, Tokai University and Endeavor Japan brought together leading experts from Bulgaria and Japan to explore opportunities for collaboration in AI, IT and space engineering. The seminar aimed to highlight Bulgaria’s potential as a technology hub, attract Japanese investment, and foster exchange programs for experts and students in these cutting-edge fields.
The seminar served as a platform for strengthening scientific and business collaborations between Bulgaria and Japan, with discussions on how AI-driven innovations can drive economic growth, sustainability, and technological leadership.
One of the key speakers at the event was Prof. Sylvia Ilieva, Director of the GATE Institute, who presented GATE’s research and its ongoing collaboration with Tsukuba University and the Center for Computational Sciences (CCS). She focused on digital twins, urban climatology and smart city development, technology allowing for improved environmental monitoring and climate resilience. Prof. Ilieva highlighted that GATE’s successful international cooperation with Japan serves as a strong example of how research partnerships can contribute to scientific progress and technological innovation.
The seminar brought together experts from both Bulgaria and Japan to discuss advancements in AI, IT, and space engineering. Topics included Bulgaria’s strong IT sector, its competitiveness in Europe, and its appeal as an investment hub for Japanese companies. Presentations also covered innovative space technologies like EnduroSat’s Satellite as a Service model, business opportunities in Bulgaria’s dynamic IT and gaming sectors, and Japan’s Generative AI Strategy, which emphasizes ethical AI development. The event highlighted Bulgaria’s contributions to space engineering, including satellite technology and space climate research, and explored growing opportunities for Bulgarian-Japanese collaboration in these fields. The event also featured a panel discussion on AI and high-performance computing (HPC), which included experts from Japan.
