The first AEC Hackathon in Eastern Europe, which took place in Sofia, ended with success. It was hosted by GATE Institute together with the organizers of the biggest hackathon in this field – AEC Hackathon (Architecture, Engineering and Construction Hackathon).
The event took place from 8 to 10 December 2023 and its aim was to promote the relationship between information technology and companies working in the fields of architecture, construction, mobility and urban planning.
Over 3 days, 33 participants, divided into 6 teams, worked on 6 projects. They combined more than 20 different areas of expertise – mainly in the field of the urban environment, followed by IT and participants with mixed expertise. A three-member jury evaluated the projects and nominated the best ones.
The event took place with a lot of dynamics, variety and fun in the presence of over 50 guests. The hackathon attracted two sponsors and 13 partners.
“We are already starting the preparations for the next event in 2024, when we expect even stronger involvement from more participants, partners and sponsors, even more interesting topics, more diverse expertise, and amazing projects,” said Kaloyan Karamitov, City Living Lab Manager at GATE and a hackathon organiser.
The AEC hackathon is one of the tools to promote dialogue and multidisciplinarity in the field of the urban environment with a strong focus on modern technologies.
The hackathon has been held for over 10 years in various cities around the world. With over 50 global events, the AEC Hackathon is the leading platform for open innovation in the built environment.
