Irina Temnikova is an experienced researcher in GATE and works on automatically recognizing the true statements, false claims, and deliberate disinformation in social media.

She is an interdisciplinary specialist with experience in Linguistics, Multilingualism, Natural Language Processing, Corpus Linguistics and Psycholinguistics.

She has worked on research topics such as media bias, automatic detection of emergency information in social media (crisis informatics), machine translation evaluation, text simplification, readability, automatic recognition of specialized languages, corpus linguistics, and automatic terminology extraction.

She has been an active organizer of scientific and educational events on computational linguistics and translation technologies and has worked as a foreign language teacher and as a translator for the European Parliament for several language pairs.

She holds a B.A. degree in Italian philology and an M.A. degree in Computational Linguistics from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and a Ph.D. in Computational Linguistics from the University of Wolverhampton, UK.
